How I wish I had known my grandfather. He is buried in a military cemetery in Epinal France. There are few stories to tell as he was just 27 years old when he died, but my grandma kept his memory alive and often talked of what a kind, loving, wonderful husband and father he was. It made me proud and happy each time she would tell me how much I reminded her of him. He deeply loved his two little babies, Janice and Billy. My mom was just three, and my uncle Billy just four when their dad was killed in the war. He would have dearly loved his five grandchildren: Joanie, Jeanne, Andrea, Billy, and Adam; Six great-grandchildren: Jenna, Jonny, Henriette, Pernille, Poppy, and Rowan; and great-great granddaughter Madeline. In loving memory of my grandpa, my hero. Joanie “All gave some, some gave all.”

My father had 'his life taken' (Andy Rooney - "My War") in WWII fighting against what our country is becoming. One of thousands who never made it home.
