Honor your hero with thoughts, memories, images and stories.
In memory of my Father, Vincent A. Scungio. Maj USAF Missing in Action 4, Nov. 1966 in North Vietnam. He was a Wild Weasel (#99), Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO) in the F-105F Thunderchief, 13TH Tactical Fighter Squadron Korat RTAFB Thailand. The Wild Weasel’s “WW’s” would fly ahead of a flight of bombers or strike aircraft and would play a Dangerous game of chicken with SA-2 Surface to Air Missiles (SAM). The EWO / Bear in the back seat watched his radar homing gear and tell the Pilot where the signals were coming from and if a SAM had been launched at them, they would dodge the incoming Missile or Missiles (usually 2 or 3 were fired at them) and then once they visibly acquired a SAM Site they would attack it with Shrike Missiles and their wingman would bomb the site knocking out the Radar. On 4, Nov. 1966 their Aircraft was struck by Anti Aircraft Artillery (AAA) while attacking a SAM Site. His Pilots remains were returned to the United States in 1989. My Father is Unaccounted for.
