Terry the son of Harold I. Curtis and Martha L. Curtis of Flint MI enlisted in the US Marine Corps on January 17, 1967 in Detroit MI. He arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
A squad sized ambush patrol divided itself into three separate fire team ambush sites in the vicinity of the Phuoc Ninh village complex in Hieu Duc District. Unknown to the Marines an enemy force infiltrated themselves into a nearby hedge grove close enough where they were able to throw four hand grenades into the Marines positions killing three patrol members. One of the casualties was PFC Curtis who was killed as a result of multi fragmentation wounds from a hostile grenade.
