The youngest of 5 military servicemen gunned down on July 16, 2015 in Chattanooga TN by a terrorist, LCpl Skip Wells was a Marine, a hero, a son, grandson, nephew and a friend. It was the things that made Skip the man and Marine he was, that drove the community to rise up in support of each other after the senseless rampage. Skip was a large presence in his community, where he grew up, in Marietta, GA. Skip was a 2012 graduate of Sprayberry High School and he attended Georgia Southern University before deciding that becoming a Marine was his ultimate “calling”. Skip had been a member of Sprayberry’s marching and symphonic bands where he found a love of music and followed his mother’s footsteps in playing clarinet. Skip was a member of the NJROTC where he deepened his love of country. Always having been a history buff and having a deep respect for our armed forces, Skip always knew a career in the military be where he would find his stride. Skip also volunteered his off time at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park with the artillery detachment of the living history program. He had become a key member of the gun crew mastering all the positions in the Civil War Era artillery program. Skip became an asset to the program sharing the differences between the Civil War and modern-day field artillery.
