SSGT Thompson and his crew took off to bomb a railroad bridge at Griegliano, Italy. Weather prevented an attack on the primary target so they diverted to the bridge at Vernio, Franc de Sooty and the bridge at Cecina. During this mission SSGT Thompson's plane was shot down by heavy accurate enemy anti aircraft fire. Sergeant Hochstatter was the only survivor. The photograph above shows the crew that day
