TRIBUTES

Honor your hero with thoughts, memories, images and stories.

  • Kermit was my mom's older brother. Upon completing his WW II Army Air Corps South Pacific tour of duty, he volunteered for duty in the European theater. He was killed on February 20, 1944, after a bombing run when his badly damaged plane crashed trying to land in England. He was 22 years old. He is buried in Wausau, Wisconsin. There isn't a day that has passed by since Kermit's death, that my mom hasn't missed him and grieved his death. In my eyes, Kermit has always been a hero and a role model. He paid the ultimate price so I can live in a free country. God Bless Kermit LaVick and all who have served this great nation.

This photo shows S/Sgt Kermit C. LaVick sitting in what remained of the tail turret of 42-7510, El Lobo, after it returned from the mission on 20 Dec 1943. The tail turret was severed from the plane and tail gunner S/Sgt Donald D. Pippitt fell to his death.
