I grew up with Johnny Yarger in Brockway Montana. John was born on a Saturday on 26 Feb 1949 in Miles City Montana.Johnny volunteered for Viet Nam and started his tour date Friday 02 Aug 1968 with the Armies 9th Infantry Div. Johnny was killed in action in Dinh Tuong South Viet Nam on Sunday 23 Mar 1969; the result of gun/small arms fire (ground casualty)receiving the Purple Heart.John is buried in Custer National Cemetary, Crow Agency, Big Horn County Montana (Section B Site # 1284).If at the Viet Nam Memorial Wall; John R. John Yarger was born in Miles City, Montana, February 26, 1949. he spent all of his life in Brockway, having graduated from Brockway grade school and attending high school in Circle. After his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Yarger moved to Miles City, Johnny remained here (Brockway) working on various ranches. He had a love of horses and also had been one of our bronc riders at the Brockway Dairy Day and other rodeos in the community.When John was called to serve his country, he proudly went. He received his basic trainin in Fort Lewis, Washington, and was able to be home on furlough during Dairy Day in July of 1968. Shortly after this he was assigned duty in Viet Nam. He was stationed in the Dong Tam area, fourty miles south of Saigon. He was a member of the Ninth Division of the Army. On February 7, 1969 he was awarded the Air Medal for aerial flights that he had made. On March 21, 1969 he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for ground operations against hostile forces. On March 23, 1969 he was given the Purple Heart for wounds that took his life on March 23. On April 8, 1969 he was put to rest at Custer Battlefield National Cemetery.

Sgt John R Yarger, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Yarger of Miles City, was killed in action March 23, in the Don Tam area battle 40 miles south of Saigon, Vietnam. He was born February 26, 1949, in Miles City and attended schools in Circle and Brockway. He received his basic and special training at Fort Lewis WA, and was sent to Vietnam in July, 1963. He was wounded slightly on February 13, but returned to action. He is survived by his parents, a brother, Thomas L of Fort Jackson SC; two sisters, Mrs. Bill Bergeson of Miles City, and Mrs. Ernie Nagel of Glendive; and his maternal grandfather, Tom Gardner of Terry.
