Corporal Allen entered the service January 8, 1940. He served in Africa and Italy. He was wounded during the invasion of Salerno, Italy. The later returned to his unit and received more wounds that resulted in his death at Cassino on February 11, 1944, one day after his 23rd birthday. Corporal Allen also received the following medals: Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal, Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart.
