Honor your hero with thoughts, memories, images and stories.
Born in Nova Scotia, Canada, Gary became a US citizen just a few years before volunteering for the US Army's 173 Airborne Brigade. He loved science and planned to use the GI Bill to study medicine. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his three sisters. When he was in high school he dissected a shark in the basement of his family's home and the smell stunk up the whole neighborhood. His letters home are a tough read, war is hell and the conflict in Vietnam was especially brutal. He grew to appreciate Toledo Ohio's winters after experiencing the tropics and missed "all the little things" about home all soldiers do. He died defending his fellow soldiers and we honor that heroism. He was, is and always will be deeply missed.
