  • This is for my great uncle, Gwen. People who served with him knew him as Floyd. Always put others before himself. He left behind a son, Stacey James, who became a favorite cousin of mine. Gwen is remembered by many family members and missed greatly. He was KIA on Valentines Day of 1967, just 2 weeks before he was suppose to come home.

Anyone who served with Gwen, Floyd... please, please contact me. Thank you to all who served; past, present and future.

To my Fallen Brother, I will never forget you.Floyd was my Ammo bearer on the M60. Valentines Day, 1967. Our unit was going up a draw and we were ambushed by heavy machine gun fire from both sides. I got my M-60 tangled up in briars and had a hard time getting it loose. The air was full of bullets from the enemy. I have scars on both legs from the briars. I shoulder fired my M-60 and knocked one of my own teeth out. After returning fire, the enemy knew as usual that it wouldn`t be long before air strikes were called in. The shooting ceased as the enemy must have took off over the mountain. We finally got back down the draw and called in Medivac and Air Strikes. I caught a bullet in the brim of my nose, but nothing serious. Floyd caught a fatal round. Anyone having knowledge of any of his family please contact me. I called all the Savells in his home state. None of them were related to him. A Valentines day I will never forget. May my Fallen Brother rest in peace.

Floyd is buried at MERIDIAN CEMETERY, MERIDIAN, ID
