On August 27 the point man of the Patrol detonated a Booby Trap near the vicinity of the Gio Thuy village complex in the Dai Loc District of Quang Nam Province. A USN Corpsman rushing to aid the wounded men tripped a second Booby Trip causing an explosion resulting in three additional men being wounded. Before they could be evacuated, the USN Corpsman and Cpl Bennett died as a result of the fragmentation wounds.
