TSgt. Claude Bunch was from the area of Shelby county, Alabama. He also had some connections to Winter Park, Orange County, Florida. He had served during World War II. During his service in Vietnam, he was part of a team that were killed when chemical delay-fuzed bombs detonated while they attempted to render them safe after an aircraft crash at Bien Hoa AB, Republic of South Viet Nam after a B-57 exploded, setting off a series of explosions. The resulting conflagration killed 27 men and destroyed ten B-57Bs, eleven VNAF Douglas A-1H Skyraiders, a USAF A-1E, and a U.S. Navy Vought F-8E Crusader and caused numerous casualties among air and ground crewmen. In addition, 23 other aircraft received damage.
