Today, (10/23/18) the USS Indianapolis Second Watch has a flag flying over the USS Indianapolis Memorial is in memory of Lost At Sea sailor Frank Romani HA1. It will then be lowered and sent to his family. Frank was born on April 26, 1925, in Red Lodge, Montana and attended high school in Butte. He enlisted on November 1, 1943, and received his training at Farragut, Idaho. He was assigned to the USS Indianapolis in April 1944. Frank was 20 years old at the time of the sinking. He left behind his parents Frank & Helen Romani and a younger brother James, who was also serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II . A family member recalls visiting Frank's mother and father after WW2 and was shown a metal airplane that Frank had made from a piece of the Japanese kamikaze plane that hit the Indy in March 1945. Frank was on board at the time and went home on leave while the ship was being repaired and brought this small plane with him at the time. Gone but never forgotten.
