  • Earl Edward Brines (1919-1944) gave up his job as a produce buyer for his dad's company in Centralia, Washington to serve his country during WWII. He served on the USS NAVAJO when it was attacked by a Japanese Submarine 12 Sep 1944 150 miles east of Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu in the pacific ocean. The torpedo ripped through the ship and ignited the depth charges on board causing the American ship to sink within 2 minutes with 17 sailors including LT. Brines.
