    Elmer B. Heath was inducted into the Army at Fort George Meade, Maryland in May of 1944. He went through Basic training at Camp Wheeler, Georgia and was shipped overseas in October of 1944. He was assigned to the 47th Infantry of the 9th Division Company A. He traveled through France, into Belgium and on to his last battle in Remagen Germany, where he lost his life during the Siege of the Lundendorf Bridge. He crossed the Bridge on March 8, 1945 and was killed near the small village of Bruchhausen on the other side of the Rhine River. His wife, Virginia, was notified of his death on March 21, 1945. At that time, his daughters, Nancy and Helen were 3½ years and 17 months old.
